Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck’s Child, Formerly Seraphina, Changes Their Name

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck’s 15-year-old, previously known as Seraphina Rose, stepped into the public eye for the first time with a new name, Fin, at a memorial service honoring Jennifer’s late father last weekend.

Dressed in a black pantsuit and sporting a buzz-cut hairstyle, Fin presented themselves by their chosen name and recited a bible verse during the service at Christ Church United Methodist in Charleston, West Virginia, on Saturday.

Although Fin had been seen with their new short haircut as early as February of the same year, the funeral marked their first public introduction under the new name.

The memorial service, broadcasted live on Facebook, paid tribute to Jennifer Garner’s father, William Jack Garner, who passed away at the age of 85 just a week before.

Echoing sentiments shared by other grandchildren, Fin, standing at the church lectern, introduced themselves saying: “Hello, my name is Fin Affleck,” before reading from the Book of Proverbs, Chapter 16, Verse 8: “Better is a little with righteousness, than a large income with injustice.”

Jennifer announced her father’s passing on Instagram in a touching post the previous Monday, describing him as having a “gentle demeanor and quiet strength” and celebrating his qualities as a father and leader.

Fin, the middle child of Garner and Affleck, has an elder sister, Violet Anne, aged 18, and a younger brother, Samuel, aged 15. Despite their parents’ divorce in 2018, the family maintains an amicable relationship.

In 2022, Affleck tied the knot with singer Jennifer Lopez, whose 16-year-old daughter, Emme Maribel Muniz, also uses gender-neutral pronouns and shares a close bond with Fin as a step-sibling.

This emergence of identity is part of a larger trend among celebrity families. Jamie Lee Curtis publicly supported her transgender daughter Ruby in 2021, while Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union embraced their daughter Zaya’s transgender identity in 2020.

Sigourney Weaver disclosed in December 2022 that her 34-year-old child identifies as nonbinary, and Charlize Theron emphasized the importance of respecting her daughter Jackson’s pronouns in a 2019 interview.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Shiloh, 17, has also been the subject of speculation regarding her gender identity. Jolie previously mentioned Shiloh’s preference for masculine clothing, while Pitt shared anecdotes about Shiloh wanting to be called “John.”

While Shiloh had been seen wearing masculine outfits in her early teens, recent appearances show her in dresses, including a Dior dress borrowed from her mother for a London premiere in 2021.
