Netflix Movie Based On Stephen King Novel Has Scene So Grim It’s Making People Pass Out

If you’re familiar with Stephen King’s novels, you’ll know they’re not exactly light bedtime reading.

From IT and Pet Sematary to The Boogeyman and Children of the Corn, King’s tales have consistently provided chilling thrills for audiences.

In recent years, Netflix has taken on the challenge of adapting King’s works, both rebooting classic films and producing original content based on his stories.

One such Netflix original is Gerald’s Game, starring Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood, directed by renowned horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan, known for his work on projects like The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep, The Midnight Club, and Midnight Mass.

Released in 2017, the film centers on a woman who accidentally kills her husband during a sexual encounter, leading to a harrowing struggle for survival as she finds herself handcuffed to the bed in a remote location.

Though it’s been a few years since its release, a recent post in the Netflix Bangers Facebook group sparked discussion about Gerald’s Game among fans.

Commenters praised the film, with one noting, “Good movie, even better book!” Another fan shared, “Loved it – seen it 3x lol. Can be uncomfortable in certain scenes but worth a watch.”

However, not everyone found the experience pleasant. One viewer warned, “Be careful. The big climactic scene made me sick to my stomach. I had to take a break before I could come back and finish watching it.” Another described it as “terrifying.”

Reflecting on their reaction to the film, a viewer shared their intense experience, writing, “Okay, I genuinely nearly just passed out. #GeraldsGame has been on pause for ten minutes. A film has NEVER affected me like that before.” They continued, “Can’t believe it affected me like it did. I swear I’ve seen worse. But I genuinely felt faint. Had to run to the loo and everything.”

Despite its disturbing scenes, Gerald’s Game holds an impressive 91 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. One critic even argued that the film surpassed the source material, stating, “There are few movies that manage to outdo their source material. There are fewer still movies that are based on a Stephen King book and still manage to outdo the source material. Netflix original film Gerald’s Game is one such movie.”
