Coachella Facing Huge Fine After Lana Del Rey Broke Golden Rule

Even in the free-spirited atmosphere of Coachella, there are rules to follow, and breaking them can come with a hefty price tag. Singer Lana Del Rey recently learned this lesson after wrapping up her set during the festival’s second weekend.

According to TMZ, Del Rey incurred an estimated $28,000 expense for exceeding the festival’s strict time limits for performances. While the rules don’t dictate the songs she can sing, they do regulate the duration of her set.

Reportedly, the city of Indio charges Coachella a significant fee for every minute a performance extends beyond the agreed-upon curfew. A representative for the city informed TMZ that Del Rey’s set exceeded the allotted time by 13 minutes.

Although this may not seem excessive, the financial implications quickly add up under the festival’s agreement with the city. Officials have stated that Coachella faces a daily penalty of $20,000 for the first five minutes past curfew, escalating to an additional $1,000 per minute thereafter.

Despite the fine, Del Rey’s fans remain unfazed, praising her for delivering an unforgettable performance. During her set, she performed 19 songs, including a surprise appearance by Camila Cabello, who performed her new single, ‘I LUV IT.’

According to the city representative, Del Rey’s set incurred the only fine during the second weekend, making it a relatively minor issue for the organizers.

This incident recalls a similar situation from last year when British DJ Calvin Harris faced scrutiny for exceeding his set time and breaking curfew. Despite arriving on stage 30 minutes late, Harris ensured his fans received a memorable performance.

Despite the financial penalties, artists like Harris continue to regard Coachella as a coveted opportunity. Harris himself shared his appreciation for the experience, expressing his long-held desire to perform at the festival.
