Anne Hathaway’s ‘Tonight Show’ Interview Takes Awful Turn After Audience Reacts in Silence to Her Question

Anne Hathaway’s appearance on “The Tonight Show” took an awkward turn when she discovered that the audience hadn’t delved into the book behind her new film, “The Idea of You.”

During her segment with host Jimmy Fallon on Monday, Hathaway, known for her roles in “Les Misérables” and “Interstellar,” queried, “Has anybody here read the book?”

A moment of silence ensued until Fallon interjected humorously, “No, we don’t read. This is ‘The Tonight Show.’ You want to go to Stephen Colbert if you want to get people to read books. Lame!”

In response, Hathaway, 41, humorously feigned embarrassment, covering her face while laughing and taking a moment to regain composure.

Quickly recovering, she quipped, “What’s a book?” eliciting laughs from the audience.

Fans lauded Hathaway’s reaction in the comments of the clip, commending her composure and humor in handling the situation.

As Hathaway continues promoting her upcoming film, set for release on May 2, she reminisced about her journey in the entertainment industry, including some cringe-worthy moments from her early career.

In a recent interview with V Magazine, Hathaway recalled being asked to kiss multiple men to assess on-screen chemistry.

Recalling the experience, she expressed discomfort at the time, reflecting on societal norms of the era. Despite her reservations, she complied with the request to avoid appearing uncooperative, highlighting the changes in industry standards over time.
