Tom Brady willingly stepped into the firing line for a roast, but it was America’s ‘Roastmaster General’ Jeff Ross who landed a joke that ruffled feathers.
In Netflix’s live production of the ‘Greatest Roast of All Time,’ Ross took aim at Brady’s past, referencing a moment when the quarterback introduced himself to Patriots owner Robert Kraft.
“Tom became a Patriot, moved up to New England, and on the first day of training camp, that scrawny rookie famously walked into the owner Robert Kraft’s office and said, I’m the greatest decision your organization has ever made… would you like a massage,” Ross quipped.
While the room erupted in laughter, Brady appeared less than amused and approached Ross during his set.
“Don’t say that s**t again,” Brady interjected with a smile, though his hand clumsily covered the microphone. The joke touched on Kraft’s involvement in a legal case related to a Florida day spa incident in 2019.
Kraft, who pleaded not guilty and later had the charges dropped due to rights violations, expressed remorse in a statement, vowing to regain respect through actions, not words.
Despite Brady’s objection, social media largely sided with Ross, with some comparing the incident to Will Smith’s infamous slap of Chris Rock at the Oscars.
Ross wasn’t alone in roasting Brady. Comedians like Kevin Hart, Nikki Glaser, and Bert Kreischer, as well as former teammates Drew Bledsoe, Randy Moss, Rob Gronkowski, and Julian Edelman, all took jabs at the quarterback.
Edelman teased Kraft during his set, joking about their next encounter being at the owner’s funeral, to which Kraft playfully fired back.
The roast covered various topics, including Brady’s divorce, cheating scandals, and his appearance. Kim Kardashian, once rumoured to be involved with Brady, joined in with a humorous toast.
Later, Bill Belichick made a surprise appearance, poking fun at the event and referencing a documentary about the Patriots. Gronkowski added his signature flair by spiking a shot glass, sending shards flying across the stage, in a memorable finale.
