Jennifer Lopez, 54, has reportedly turned to her husband Ben Affleck’s ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, for support as they navigate through challenging times in their marriage. According to insiders, both women are concerned about Affleck’s sobriety and the state of his two-year marriage to Lopez.
Garner, 52, was seen arriving at Affleck’s Brentwood property on Sunday, where he has been staying amid rumours of marital discord. The former couple, who shares children together, reportedly met earlier in the day to attend their son Samuel’s basketball game in Santa Monica.
A source revealed that Garner, who is currently dating businessman John Miller, values Lopez’s stabilising influence in Affleck’s life. “Jen does not want Ben to pull the plug on this marriage because she really does care about JLo,” the insider said. “She did go to his house to talk to him about this and to try and keep the two of them together.”
Lopez has been confiding in Garner, recognising her as someone who can relate to her situation. “Lo has been confiding in Jen because she knows that she is one of the only people in the world who would understand what she is going through,” the source explained. “She has been through it with the same man herself, and although the circumstances were quite different, it is still the same man, and they both dealt with some of the same issues.”
Concerns about Affleck’s sobriety have been raised, with insiders fearing he may relapse amid marital struggles. “The biggest fear right now is that he will start drinking again, and part of the reason Jen has been keeping tabs on him is to make sure this doesn’t happen,” the source continued.
Affleck has been candid about his struggles with alcohol, admitting that his drinking escalated during the breakdown of his marriage to Garner in 2015-2016. He eventually sought treatment in rehab in August 2018 after Garner staged an intervention.
Despite the challenges, both Lopez and Affleck are reportedly committed to working through their issues. “JLo and Ben are trying to make this work with all their might, and Jen is definitely a cheerleader for them,” the source added. “There are so many reasons why they should work it out and very few reasons why they should end it.”
Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance in 2021 and tied the knot in July 2022. However, reports of marital struggles surfaced earlier this month when the couple was not seen together for 47 days. While Affleck has been spotted without his wedding ring, sources maintain that divorce is not imminent.
