Selena Gomez Shares Requirements Men Have To Meet To Date Her

Selena Gomez has refuted claims that she is “high maintenance,” arguing that modern men “confuse standards with high maintenance.”

The pop star stirred conversation about her dating views during an appearance on SiriusXM radio last year. A clip from the segment has recently resurfaced on social media, where Gomez discussed her approach to dating.

During the interview, Gomez—who recently commented online with her new boyfriend about Justin and Hailey Bieber’s baby announcement—was promoting her then-upcoming single, “Single Soon.” Hosts Tony Fly and Symon quoted lyrics from the song: “I know I’m a little high maintenance, but I’m worth a try / Might not give a reason why (oh well),” and asked if she truly considers herself high maintenance.

Gomez responded, “I think I have standards, and I think I live in a world right now where boys confuse standards with high maintenance.”

When the hosts probed further, Gomez elaborated on her “X, Y, and Z” conditions, revealing that her expectations are quite reasonable. “You gotta be cool, man,” she said. “Not cool in the sense that people think you’re cool. You just gotta be nice and like, please make me laugh and also just be good to my family and people around you.”

Gomez also shared that she was content with being single at the time. “I think everybody goes through the phase of, ‘Oh, it’d be nice to have someone,’ and I get that,” she explained. “But you know, I’m just enjoying where I’m at, and I just want to be happy with who I am so that whenever that person comes into my life, I can just have them add on to me instead of being this insecure, you know, person that I normally used to be.”

She summed up her views by saying, “It’s basically my way of saying it’s totally okay being on your own, and it’s fun.”

By the end of the year, Gomez confirmed she was in a new relationship with record producer and songwriter Benny Blanco.
