Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller lead the film as it enters the Palme d’Or race

One of the most anticipated films of the year is officially heading to Cannes.

Paper Tiger, the new crime thriller from director James Gray, has been added to the festival’s main competition lineup, putting it in the running for the Palme d’Or.

And it comes with a stacked cast.

The film stars Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller, marking a major reunion for Driver and Johansson following Marriage Story.

The story centres on two brothers chasing the American dream.

But things quickly spiral.

What starts as an opportunity turns into something far more dangerous, pulling them into a world of crime, corruption and violence that begins to tear their lives apart.

The film was widely expected to be included when the Cannes lineup was first announced, but was missing from the initial list.

Now, it is officially in.

And it adds even more weight to this year’s competition.

Director James Gray is no stranger to Cannes, having premiered multiple films at the festival over the years, making this return feel like a natural fit.

There is also strong backing behind the project.

Distributor Neon has secured North American rights, continuing its impressive run at Cannes after supporting several recent Palme d’Or winners.

With its late entry, major cast and high stakes story, Paper Tiger is already shaping up to be one of the films to watch.
