The duo will lead the reboot as Tubbs and Crockett in a throwback to the original series

Miami Vice is officially getting a new era.

The upcoming reboot now has a title, Miami Vice ’85, and it is bringing in some major star power to lead it.

Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler have signed on to play iconic detectives Rico Tubbs and Sonny Crockett, stepping into roles made famous in the original 80s series.

And this version is going back to the beginning.

The film will take inspiration from the early days of the show, diving into the world of undercover cops navigating crime, style and chaos in 1980s Miami.

It is a full period piece.

Which sets it apart from the 2006 film adaptation, giving this version a more direct connection to the original tone and setting.

Behind the camera, Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski is leading the project, bringing his blockbuster experience to the reboot.

Production is set to begin soon, with the film aiming for a cinematic scale that matches its high profile cast.

The original Miami Vice became a cultural phenomenon, known as much for its style as its storytelling.

Now, nearly four decades later, the franchise is stepping back into that world.
